How to Increase Your Website Traffic Using Social Media

Social media isn’t the end-all-be-all. You want your audience to go to your website. Driving people to your website is important for a number of reasons. First of all, it can lead to increased conversions since your website is often the primary place where sales or leads (signing up for a newsletter, filling out a contact form, etc.) can happen.   • Create high-quality content. Produce engaging, valuable, and shareable content. This can include blog posts, infographics, videos, or podcasts that resonate with your audience.   • Offer exclusive content. Promote exclusive content on social media that can only be accessed by visiting your website. This could be an eBook, blog, whitepaper, report, or a special video series.


  • Utilize social media plugins. Add social media share buttons to your website content, making it easy for visitors to share your articles, products, or services with their networks, thereby driving additional traffic.


  • Run time-sensitive promotions. Promote limited-time offers or flash sales exclusively on social media, directing users to your website to take advantage of the deal.


  • Link in IG Stories. Adding a link (or ‘Swipe Up’ feature if you have more than than 10k followers) is a way your audience can head to your website with just the click of a button. The more steps a viewer has to take (this is called ‘friction,’ any obstacle or resistance that makes it difficult for a potential customer to move through the sales funnel or complete a desired action), the less likely they’ll make it to your website. Be sure to direct your link to the exact page you want your viewers to visit (i.e. subscription sign-up, shop, blog, or ‘About You’ page).


  • Use keywords. Integrate SEO-friendly keywords into your social media posts to align them with search engine optimization. Also, leverage relevant hashtags to increase the visibility of your post. 


  • Tease your content. Share snippets or teasers of your blog posts on social media, with a link to read the full post on your website.


  • Write a powerful call to action (CTA). Use strong CTAs in your bio and posts to encourage followers to visit your website. A direct link to your website should always be in your profile bio.


  • Opt for targeted ads. Run targeted social media ads that lead directly to your website. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn offer detailed targeting options. Use retargeting ads to reach people who have previously visited your website, reminding them to return.


  • Work with influencers. Partner with influencers who can promote your website to their followers. This can drive high-quality traffic from a relevant audience.
