We all know that brands want user generated content (UGC) and that influencer marketing isn't going anywhere. Lots of small brands have bots set up to automatically comment "DM to collab ❤️" or "DM us sis! Would love to work with you!" on Instagram posts that fit their criteria. If you don't want to be an influencer, these comments are annoying. If you do want to be an influencer, these spammy comments can actually damage your engagement rate. Brands will look at your page and realize that the fake comments are inflating your numbers, and might pass on you for the brand deal. Here's a step - by - step guide on how to make sure fake DM comments stop showing up on your posts.
1. Click the three lines in the top right corner of your Instagram profile page.
2. Click "Settings".
3. Tap "Privacy".
4. Select "Comments".
5. Turn on the "Manual Filter".
6. Now type in phrases that show up in the spam comments you receive. We suggest using "DM us", "DM", and "collab". Separate each phrase by a comma and a space.
Now your comments section should be free of spammy brand comments!
If you want to be an influencer, you might think that blocking these comments will keep you from seeing comments from brands that really want to work with you. As a company that hires influencers for brands frequently, we would never comment "DM us!" on a post, and neither will any other legitimate company. Brands that actively want to work with you will DM you, or head to your bio to find out the best way to contact you.
(P.S. Make sure you have easy to find contact info in your bio if you want to be an influencer!!!)
Brands that use the "DM to collab!" method often require influencers to pay high shipping rates for "free" products. Those comments aren't going to help you in the long run, and you might as well clear out your comments section so genuine engagement can flourish.
