Do you ever feel like you've run out of caption ideas? Especially ideas that will turn into long form captions? We've got your back. Here are 10 prompts to help you get out of your caption writing rut. All of these caption prompts can work well photos you probably already have, so you don't have to worry about a photoshoot to write these captions.
1. What was the moment you knew you wanted to start your business?
This prompt is more specific than the typical "why did you start your business" prompts. I want you to sit down and think about the very moment that pushed you to finally take the leap. Maybe it was a conversation with a friend, a tough shift at your day job, or simply waking up with a new feeling in your heart. Let your audience into that specific moment.
2. Write about a limiting belief you had to overcome to grow.
Did you ever think you weren't talented enough to succeed in your industry? Or maybe someone always told you you weren't organized, so you just assumed you could never keep a schedule or a clean home? Share about how it felt to be trapped in that belief, what helped you overcome it, and now how you feel on the other side.
3. Write about a goal you recently achieved.
Share how you planned for it, and the steps you took to accomplish it. Think of it as sharing your route to a success - not bragging about the success itself.
4. Share about a product you bought that you can't imagine your life without.
If you have a cool kitchen gadget that you constantly suggest to your family, write about it on Instagram. Maybe you discovered a new skincare product that has absolutely changed your life, and you've recommended it to all your friends. You're clearly passionate about it, so why not share that passion on Instagram?
5. Write about a time you failed.
Similar to writing about a goal you've achieved, this prompt isn't about the failure - it's about the process that led you there and how you recovered from it. Being vulnerable on social media is what builds community. You don't have to just share the highlights of your life, you can share the whole story.
6. Share about your favorite place to shop.
This prompt is great to use when you have a photo of you in your favorite outfit ... but don't really have a reason to post it. Did you buy the shirt you're wearing in the photo at a cute boutique not many people know about? Write about how much you love their product line and give your follower's the info they need to be able to shop there too!
7. Share the story behind your favorite family tradition.
This prompt is perfect for cute family photos you've never posted. Don't just tell your followers that your family always goes to the lake for a weekend in the summer. Tell them why. Write about the origin story of the tradition, which family member started it. What made them want to start it? There's so much to unpack in this prompt.
8. Write about a tough work situation that you've navigated.
We suggest pulling from a situation from a past job, not the place you currently work. We're not encouraging you to complain about past coworkers or bosses. We want you to share what you learned and how that work situation made you grow. It's all about sharing growth, not sharing negativity.
9. Write about what kind of time management works best for you.
Do you use a paper planner? Are all your appointments on your phone? Do you time block your day? Are to do lists your best way of getting things done? Share what works for you and what hasn't worked for you. Your followers might learn a new skill that will help them manager their time better.
10. Post a throwback photo and tell the truth about how you were feeling during that time in your life.
Give your followers a behind the scenes look into your life. This prompt is great for old vacation photos. Write about what you wish you'd known during that time of life. Give past you advice. Tell past you about all the beautiful things that have happened since the photo was taken. The options are endless.
Try these out to fill in the gaps in your content creation! We can't wait to see what you write.
